We look back over the previous 12 months and what we have to look forward into 2023 with Bowman's Programme Director, Will Bowers

Over the five years that I have been part of the company, 2022 has been the most exciting and rewarding year to date with 4 brand new developments being tested in our new test cells and many building blocks in place to ensure that 2023 is even better!

Here are some key highlights from 2022:

  • Our eTurbine products are continuing to run throughout the world producing free power by recovering waste heat energy from combustion engines. Based on the operational data we have, we estimate that our eTurbine fleet has produced approximately 75,000 MWhrs of free energy in the last 12 months – enough to power almost 6000 UK homes!
  • Our exciting new product StartIQ™ has now completed its first operational trial on site, helping to overcome ‘turbo lag’, to reduce fuel consumption and improve efficiency of large peaking gensets.
  • Our eTurbocharger for a heavy-duty truck engine application is continuing through the development testing phase and the prototypes are expected to be delivered in Q1 2023.
  • Our electrification solution to produce an eTurbocharger for a diesel locomotive application has now started on-engine testing and the phase two prototypes that bring together all the lessons learned are in build. Testing of this design iteration is due to start in Q2 and detailed planning for fully production approved parts for delivery in Q4 is underway.
  • Our future Silicon Carbide MOSFET based Power Electronics platform is performing very well with alpha PCBA’s in test and exceeding expectations. The project is now focused on having a full bi-directional solution prototype for application with eTurbine, eCompressor and eTurbocharger running in Q1 2024.
  • Bowman’s TorqIQ® technology is really gaining traction as more customers embark on electrification of their charging/turbocharging solutions as part of their overall strategy for the energy transition and net zero. We are delighted to have onboarded two new global co-development partners in the last few months, following feasibility studies. Further opportunities are in discussion which we hope will lead to more growth in the TorqIQ® family!

Bowman’s Turbo Systems Electrification Centre (TSEC) is also racing ahead and we hope to publish some more exciting news on this front imminently.

2022 is quite the act to follow, but we firmly believe 2023 will eclipse it on all fronts to make it the most exciting year in Bowman’s history. Do please stay in touch and, as always, do get in touch if you are interested in any of our products, undertaking a project with us or just because you’re curious!
