STORM-Group has agreed a memorandum of understanding with Bowman, a provider of electrified turbo machinery for increased efficiency and reduced emissions in power generation and transport markets.

This agreement, signed on 28th March, will give STORM-Group exclusive rights to sell and install the Bowman ETC 1000 engine efficiency system in Germany, through their August Storm GmbH & Co. KG & Wulf Johannsen KG GmbH & Co businesses. An initial order has been placed by STORM-Group, with the first system already installed and operational.

Additional projects are planned between the two companies, whilst Bowman will continue to manage their existing customers in the country.

The ETC 1000 system represents the pinnacle of Bowman’s 15 years of R&D of Electric Turbo Compounding (ETC) and other related technology. Through converting waste exhaust energy into electrical power, the ETC 1000 system allows customers to reduce fuel consumption or increase power, whilst reducing CO2 and unburnt hydrocarbon emissions. It works on a wide range of diesel and gas fuel types, on gensets up to 2.5MW.

For STORM-Group, adding ETC to their offering has further bolstered their capability and range, allowing them to provide a complete suite of options for engine upgrade and optimisation.

At the end of June, STORM-Group will be showing the ETC system at two events. The first of these will be held on 26th June at a customer site near Hamburg, that is already achieving successful results with the ETC system. On the 27th June, STORM-Group company Wulf Johannsen will be at the 3rd Norddeutscher Biogas-Branchentreff event in Rendsburg, Germany. Bowman will be attending both events to provide further support and answer questions on the system.

In a joint statement, Jan-Willem and Bernard Storm, Managing Directors of STORM-Group commented: “We have been long supporters of Bowman since 2016 and are always keen to find innovative new solutions to solve the challenges of our customers. With Bowman’s latest system now offering a 50% cost reduction per kWh generated when compared to their previous generation system, and fitting a wider set of engines, this was the ideal time for us to fully embrace ETC. We are very excited to showcase the technology at our two events this month and beyond.”

Paul Dowman-Tucker, CEO of Bowman, added: “Germany is a key market for us, where over 400 ETC systems have been installed to date. As the largest OEM-independent service company in Germany for combustion engines, STORM-Group are the ideal partner to further build our business in the region. Their base of more than 160 service engineers and fantastic reputation for service make them the perfect choice.”
