Just over a month ago our Head of Programmes, Will Bowers, published an update of our progress through Q1 and key objectives we had for Q2. Well, things mid-quarter are looking to be well on track and we’re delighted that one particularly important milestone has now been reached in respect of our exciting Fast-Start eCompressor product development!

Enabling the energy transition

This is great news because the Fast-Start eCompressor offers the ability to deliver a step change in gas genset responsiveness. What does this mean in practice? It means that the efficiency and emissions of engines, that are needed to act as backup and peak demand support to renewable energy sources, can be dramatically improved through faster and cleaner starting (known as the ‘ramp rate’). This is turn means the transition to increased renewable energy is ultimately better enabled.

Testing going well

Last week, working closely with a test partner and the generator OEM, we successfully completed ‘proof-of-concept’ testing in a fully operational environment. The testing met all expectations in terms of the significantly increased ramp rate for the generator. Learnings from these tests are now feeding into detailed requirements for a production solution which we expect to be fully operational by the end of this year, with the test programme for the next few months already mapped out.

We’re not quite ready to reveal the amazing Fast-Start eCompressor (and it’s launch product name), but we’ll update further as the project progresses. We couldn’t be more thrilled about how things are going to date!
