Georgina Euridge, our new Office Manager, recently joined Bowman as part of our exciting growth journey. As one of the latest members to be welcomed into our team, we asked her about her first impressions…

“Having previously worked at larger companies, starting work for Bowman Power was a bit of a culture shock – but undoubtedly a good one.

Bowman is a small company, with approximately 30 employees, and therefore has a close-knit family feel. Everyone is very helpful, welcoming, and willing to answer what could feel like stupid questions! As Bowman is roughly 16 years old, but is in a period of growth after the recent new eTurbo Systems technology launch, there is a hybrid culture of legacy processes and procedures in place coupled with the opportunity to create new systems; it’s a very unusual but exciting environment. The size and phase of the company and its evolution means that every day the work is varied.

The management team at Bowman are all very supportive and down to earth. They are very approachable, and the policy is definitely open door. One of the challenges of being a smaller company is that the budget needs to be tightly managed, which means that sometimes financial acumen is required. For example, when is best to be frugal to save money and time, or when to shop around to make sure you get the best quality. Still, there is an appetite and willingness amongst the staff to be adaptive and try new ways of working, for example 'Sprint'-based project management.

The benefit of having a mixture of old blood and new is that there is the knowledge and expertise of the products and technologies specific to Bowman melded with industry best practices and new ideas. Fit-for-purpose quality procedures, purchasing processes, and HR procedures is another area which is clearly being reviewed in a bid to continuously improve. These are processes which might be seen to be less critical in a smaller company, but as further growth is expected, especially within the manufacturing area, it’s an important focus for future improvement.

There are several perks to working at Bowman from a work-life balance perspective. The flexibility to work from home is ingrained here, and something which is not looked down on or just a result of COVID. But even though working from home through the week is supported, everyone has their own allocated desk, which really makes you feel like a valued employee. There is a focus on employee engagement, teambuilding, and socialising which also helps Bowman team members to feel cohesive. The cycle to work scheme and electric car scheme are also lovely added bonuses.

It's been a great experience joining Bowman, and I’m really excited about being part of its journey to further success!”
