Bowman Power Group Ltd (Bowman) was shortlisted for Product Innovation of the Year at edie’s Sustainability Leaders Awards 2020.

Now in their 13th year, the edie awards are the UK’s largest sustainability awards, which recognise excellence across green businesses. They are designed to celebrate those organisations that drive demonstrable results through innovation, engagement and a commitment to doing business better.

Bowman was shortlisted for its latest Electric Turbo Compounding (ETC) product, ETC 1000. This technology was nominated for its considerable impact and future potential in reducing emissions and fuel use across the power generation sector.

Edie considered not only this impact but also the potential for cultural change, sustainability improvements and the product’s financial benefits. Hundreds of entries were reviewed from across the UK, with Bowman facing very strong competition in their category from 10 other shortlisted companies and the many others that were nominated.

This follows Bowman’s 2019 award wins for ‘New Product (Mechanical) of the Year’ at the British Engineering Excellence Awards (BEEAs) and ‘Energy – Product or Solution’ of the year at the Big Green Awards.

Bowman Power’s (Bowman) Head of Performance, Keith Douglas, gave an overview of their ground-breaking Electric Turbo Compounding (ETC) Technology at the World Biogas eFestival 2020.

Organised by the World Biogas Association, the online four-day event took a look at the technologies and ideas that are revitalising the global biogas industry. This tied into their ambitious goals to help lead the charge in achieving a 12% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from biogas by 2030.

Keith presented Bowman’s work for a combined heat and power plant running on biogas, in Germany. At the site, Bowman fitted their ETC system to a Jenbacher J312 genset, where they achieved 5.7% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Bowman’s CEO, Paul Dowman-Tucker, commented on the event. “We are incredibly proud to have spoken at the World Biogas eFestival to showcase our strategy for reducing biogas fuel use and emissions. With greenhouse gas reductions of >18% achieved on recent projects, our ETC technology represents a fantastic opportunity to exceed the 12% target.”
